First World Championship Without Speed Glue

Posted by Manish Saturday, April 25, 2009

Risks of birth defect, lung problems, nervous system brought about a ban on speed glue and the world table tennis championship 2009 will be the first to experience the post speed glue era.

ITTF immediately banned the substance after the 2008 Olympics,or just after china's
clean sweep in the medals at the Olympics. Speed glue invented by Hungarian Tibor Klampar around 30 years ago. This speed glue made the players increase their play speed and spin and even made them easier to play some shots. Yet of its positive effect, there were more negative effects too.

A player at the Scottish championship fainted after he inhaled some speed glue fumes
,some athletes complained of severe headaches.

A German magazine even reported that they had at least 5 examples of birth defects.
The Ban on Speed glue might even affect the Chinese as they are the major speed glue users.

It would be interesting to see the world championship without use of the speed glue .
